About the work
A single burst of colour fills the square canvas: blades of yellow-green, orange and scarlet radiate from a dark, clotted centre, and a line of pale turquoise beads arcs across the upper right.
The paint is worked thickly, palette-knife ridges catching the light, while thin runs of colour are drawn down over a near-white ground.
At 145.5 cm square it reads as a landscape from across a room, and as pure texture close up. It needs a wall of roughly 2 metres to breathe.
